Ok, Cheers was great, but I haven't seen nearly enough of it to put it on this list. And from what I've seen, it isn't as good as its spin-off, Frasier, which is one of the few spin-offs to be of equal quality to its parent show. In addition to being on the short list of incredible spin-offs, it is also on the list of incredibly smart sitcoms. Utilizing clever wordplay, accurate references to high culture and featuring snooty leads, Frasier never talked down it audience.
Frasier was consistently well-written and well-acted. It was clear that the cast had a great time together, and the banter between Frasier and Niles was always great, especially when they were at their highest levels of sibling rivalry. Martin's blue-collar lifestyle clashed hilariously with his sons' sense of betterness, while Roz's sort-of friendly relationship with Frasier and antagonistic relationship with Niles made for some very witty exchanges.
Even the weak seasons (somewhere between 7 and 10) were better than the average sitcom fare. But when the show was at its best, the laughs came hard and fast. Episodes like "The Matchmaker", "The Innkeepers" and "The Ski Lodge" are some of the funniest things to be shot in four cameras.
